The quality of a patent, that is to say, the effectiveness of its claims to cover all patentable aspects of an invention up to the limit imposed by the prior art, is to a large extent affected by the resources that are devoted to the patentability search and study and the preparation and prosecution of the underlying application. While focusing on prevention of mistakes may be worth a pound of cure, in the real world mistakes can, and often do, happen.
